InFLOREScense
Celebrating Hispanic Flowers in a 12-Month Calendar
Abstract
Alondra Reyna - Design Bass School, UT Dallas
Inflorescence is a design project that celebrates the beauty and cultural significance of Hispanic flowers by creating a visually stunning and functional 12-month calendar. The Inflorescence calendar will serve as a visual celebration of Hispanic flowers, showcasing their beauty and cultural significance to a wider audience. The project will provide an opportunity to explore and showcase my Mexican heritage through creative design, and my skills in digital illustration and product making.
I used websites such as www.petalrepublic.com/mexican-flowers/ to research specific flowers indigenous to Hispanic countries and their respective blooming months. I also researched each specific flower to include each design with a fun fact. The project utilized software such as Photoshop, Adobe Fresco, and Illustrator to design intricate floral illustrations. I kept the font of my project around Canto Brush Open and used watercolor brushes from Adobe Fresco. After extensive research, I also looked for inspiration from previously made calendars to get an idea of what I wanted my Calendar to look like. That is where I came across vintage floral/pin-up girl calendars, and immediately fell in love with the layout and aesthetic.

Timeline
My timeline for this project has overall stayed on track, my biggest struggle was rendering my overall final product, and I am still in the midst of getting it printed out for final pictures. However, I like to think I remained on track and will have my physical final product alongside a finished presentation on time !
